In recent years, waste, in most of its shapes and forms, has become one of the largestenvironmental concerns. Improper waste treatment can result in the contamination ofnatural resources, and damage to biodiversity and natural ecological systems.Maytronics' waste mainly results from the assembling and the packaging of productsbefore distribution to end customers around the world. 
Waste management is essential in our sustainable approach, and we aim to achieve a responsible treatment for each type of waste.

 

Responsible Waste Treatment

At Maytronics, we assure the responsible treatment of waste at of our sites in accordance with the type and with national legislation. As for treatment by type of waste, we identify two main waste origins:



Headquarter and Office Waste
waste generated in headquarters offices, treated by type. An authorized third party waste contractor manage the waste in accordance to its type:



Mixed waste


Mixed waste mainly consisting of a mix of organic waste and household waste (trash). 
The waste is transferred to authorized landfill sites.


Paper


All paper waste generated from office operations collected and transferred for recycling.


• Electronic Waste (office supplies)

Electronic office supplies that are no longer able to be used, are sorted and transported be disassembles where they are either recycled or sent to an authorized landfill.

Industrial Waste
Waste generated as part of the manufacturing process, including assembling and packaging of products. All waste is removed by an authorized third-party waste contractor for responsible treatment:

• Electronic Waste (components)
Electrical components considered as waste sorted into type of components at our production units. After sorting, e-waste is transferred to either recycling or disassembly and on to an authorized landfill.


Plastic Waste


All plastic components are sorted and collected by the type of substance and treatment methods. We identify two types of plastic waste generated from our products: “Clean plastic”, robotic components that can be recycled; and “Ordinary plastic”, components that can be disassembled for either recycling or sent to an authorized landfill.


• Cardboard


All cardboard waste generated from packaging is sent to either be reused or recycled.


• Nylon Products


All nylon bags and raw nylon materials are sorted and transferred by an authorized third party waste contractor for recycling.


• PVC


Polyvinyl chloride components are sorted by type and transferred for either recycling or 
an authorized landfill.


• Wood Material


All plates and cable wooden drums are sent to be reused.



In 2021, over 730 thousand tons of industrial waste was sent to recycling, and was mainly composed of paper, cardboard and nylon. Of all industrial waste only 600 tons were sent to landfill, representing 0.08% of all industrial waste.



Contribution for National Waste Treatment


Treatment Regulations (Israeli law), Maytronics pays waste and recycling fees which contribute
to the waste treatment in two ways:


• Manufacturer Agreement


Recycling fees that Maytronics is paying for waste treatment and by end users.


• Importer Agreement


Packaging fees that Maytronics is paying for treatment to each type of waste generated 
from importing robotic components.

Hazardous Waste


In 2021, authorized Maytronics sites produced less than 0.5 tons of hazardous waste which was all treated in accordance with local laws and regulations.
