Excellent Robotic Pool Cleaner

I have owned lots of robotic pool cleaners over many years and was never completely happy with them. So 18 months ago I decided to buy the most expensive one on the market—I.e., the Dolphin Sigma unit. I am writing this review now to help the people who have been rating it with 1 star because the robot can get stuck on certain types of pool drain covers. I had that exact problem when I first installed the unit. I called the Maytonics customer service number and was able to speak to a human. That person explained that this issue happens with certain types of pool drains and offered a solution involving installation of an extra brush roller part on the bottom of the robot. Adding this part is akin to converting the unit from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive. Maytronics provided me with an authorization to bring my unit to a local pool repair shop with the technical expertise to install the extra brush roller part, all at no extra charge to me because the unit was under warranty. I was very impressed with both the customer service response and the subsequent performance of my converted “4 wheel drive” robot. Now it never gets caught on my pool drains and it does a wonderful job climbing the pool walls and stairs with superior cleaning!

Very pleased

Ordered a Cayman model and received a Premier model with three different filter options included. Appears to be an upgrade vs the Cayman. This is a replacement for the first Dolphin cleaner I had that lasted only three seasons due to a chemical imbalance in my pool at that time. The moving parts and especially the plastic bearings are susceptible to failure if the pool chemistry is wrong for too long; specifically water hardness and shocking the pool leaving the Dolphin is left in the water. Operator error.

If you're wondering which pool robot is the absolute best, this is it.

My pool was built 3 years ago and it came with a Pentair robot (not sure if this is a rebranded Dolphin, but I think it might be), and it has done ok, but finally just quit working entirely. The warranty was expired by 5 months, so I had to get a new one. I have had an old Roomba house vacuum, and if you've had one you know they just wander around aimlessly and they miss a lot of the floors. Then I got a newer robot home vacuum that maps out the house, and the difference was enormous. The new one does an excellent job, while the old one was just ok. That is the same difference between the pool robot that came with my pool versus the Dolphin Sigma. This thing is not just wandering around, it knows where it's been and it knows where it still needs to go. Not only that, but it scrubs the tile line, which the cheaper ones do not, and that is really important. I love that the app can schedule which days you want to clean and what time, and it notifies you when it finishes cleaning. I use the fine filters, and they always pick up a lot. When this thing finishes running, my pool looks great. I never need to sweep with this thing. It does it for me. It's not cheap, but it's the best. All the reviews I read pointed toward this one being the clear winner, the only exception is if you have a lot of leaves, the Premier might be better because it has a large bag to hold leaves. But I have no trees in my yard, so I get pine needles from the neighbors trees and whatever the wind blows in. But I didn't need the extra leaf storage, so I went with the Sigma. Also I don't think the Premier has wifi or an app. Anyway, if you are on the fence but you want the best pool vac on the market today, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

First impression... fast and easy setup (UPDATED)

This is my second Dolphin. I had a Triton before and my impression of the Sigma is that it is a massive upgrade over the Triton... The cord swivel alone is huge, I no longer need to worry about the robot getting tangled in its own cord. Also, the top stabilizer arm prevents the robot from flipping over when cleaning steps. I have just put it in the pool for its first cleaning and have had no issues with it getting stuck on the main drain (though my drain cover has a gentle slope). I will update this review more as I gain more experience with it UPDATE - I have been using this for the past week and it does an excellent job of filtering the fine dirt off the bottom of the pool using the ultra-fine filters included in the package. The construction of the filter assembly makes it much easier to clean out vs. the Trition and it is a snap to switch between the normal and ultra-fine filters. I have had no issues with the robot getting stuck on obstacles or flipping over.
